Kate Middleton’s base ahead of her fairytale wedding to Prince William. A military command center during World War I. The home of Winston Churchill’s mother. These are only a few historically significant odes to The Goring Hotel, and it’s also the spot where I write my novels while in London.
Located steps from the walls of Buckingham Palace, The Goring Hotel is pure British enchantment and a favorite for the British Royal Family. The sumptuously cozy tenor and crimson walls seduce my imagination in ways only old-world London could manage. The Goring is one of the strongest remaining echoes of old English traditions (the only hotel in London still owned and run by the family who built it) while firmly holding a strong stake in luxury British hospitality.
The Goring also boasts (in my opinion) the best afternoon tea experience in the city and if you are looking for a memory in London to make, it’s worth every pound (both the currency and the subsequent physical consequences of the criminally delicious scones). One must book their spot in advance here.
Living at The Goring (even if only when in London) is a properly English experience. London and I have a very long and intimate relationship, but as I frequent the city more and more, it’s wonderful to have an inspiring hotel to call home.
