New York City is one of my greatest romances. Now that I call it home, that passion has rooted itself even deeper into my heart, though it’s a bit more complicated. When living in the city, it’s easy to get lost in a daily grind and forget to spot the magic of the city; but, the magic never turns off. It’s about planning city excursions into your life so you never stop discovering the endless splendor of this great American city…and trust me, it’s full of moments waiting to be had.
Summer in the city is easily transforming into one of my favorite seasons. I’ll admit, most weekends should be reserved for escaping to the Hamptons and Cape Cod, but on those weekends you find yourself in the middle of an ice cream truck and Manhattanhenge, be sure to make an occasion of it. Afternoons in Central Park are one of my favorite ways to reconnect with New York, and there are dozens of activities that go beyond a simple summer stroll – rowboating in Central Park being one of my favorites.
The Loeb Boathouse (besides being a famed brunch spot) hosts a daily rowboat rental service that gives both tourists and New Yorkers a chance to see the famous skyline, Central Park’s landscape and the Bethesda Terrace from another perspective. You can do this year-round, weather permitting up until winter when the lake freezes…during which you rather retreat to a nearby Le Pain Quotidien kiosk for a hot chocolate or warm latte.
This weekend I largely spent on the upcoming redesign of The Modern Jetsetter and prepping the content to go with it. I’m also putting final touches on my fall and winter travel plans – I can’t believe they are already so close around the corner. This little Central Park boat ride combined with a follow-up Aperol Spritz and shopping for dinner ingredients at Eataly made my Sunday absolutely perfetto.
For those seeking a more Italian-inspired New York experience in the city, they do have Venetian-style Gondola rides available (no, I’m not kidding and it’s further proof that I can find Italy absolutely everywhere in NYC).
