When it comes to gathering inspiration for travel, nothing quite transports me or sets the mood like classic Hollywood Films. From tinseltown glam greats like Audrey Hepburn to the world’s first American princess Grace Kelly (sorry, Meghan, she was first), these actresses, actors and the great cinematic romances inspire travels in the most enchanting destinations.
French Riviera / To Catch a Thief
My heart swoons whenever rewatching this film, as the riviera has hardly changed in glamour or landscape since this heart-stopping film hit Hollywood. If you’re looking for wardrobe inspiration for southern Europe, Grace will give you a few ideas and you’ll also wonder why men don’t dress like Cary Grant. Seriously.
Rome / Roman Holiday
My favorite movie ever. Magic. Wonder. Love. Playfulness. Emotion. Dancing along the Tiber River. Sneaking out of palaces at midnight. Everything a Roman night should be.
Rome / La Dolce Vita
Another great that captures Roma in all her glory, La Dolce Vita is a must for every Italy lover and captures the passion that takes us over while under the intoxication of Italian air.
New York City / Breakfast at Tiffany’s
In order to understand New York City and the roots of American glamour, one must watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s. You’ll have incredibly higher standards for date night afterward (theft from toyshops, masks, etc.).
Paris and New York / Sabrina
Audrey Hepburn. Humphrey Bogart. William Holden. Love Triangle. Paris, and Audrey’s voice singing La Vie en Rose (the surest way to get chills). I’m pretty sure my romantic soul is stitched together by Sabrina scenes.
Paris / Funny Face
This movie is Paris for me, and Paris is always a good idea (that famous quote comes from Audrey herself).
Austrian Alps / The Sound of Music
The mystique of the Alps never expires. Filmed in one of Austria’s most breathtaking villages, Salzburg, The Sound of Music is not only one of my favorite stories (it’s inspired by a real love) but also captures the magic of Austria that captured me.
The American South / Gone With the Wind
Southern Charm is a culture completely of its own, and it’s celebrated. In order to understand the root of all southern grace, grit and intrigue…Gone with the Wind is a must. All twenty billion hours of it. There is no such thing as too much Clark Gable or Vivien Leigh.
